How did the 'beauty' of ivory started? I do not see the beauty of it. These people must have a perversed sense of beauty. All I could relate is status attached to this specialized mesodermal tissue. It caters to whims of the few priviledged people.
Selling ivories in the US is legal, if the tusk is hundred years old. How can any government prove that? Let us get real here. Poachers are all over Africa. China and some Arab nations want these tusks. It is a big mullah.
This is a genocide of a species. Elephants are gentle wonderful creatures.
